WATCH: Margot Robbie takes to the ice in first teaser for I, Tonya

Cape Town – The infamous rivalry between figure skaters Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan will be relived in a new biopic.

Margot Robbie has been hard at work transforming into the notorious Harding for I, Tonya

We've see her in pictures and taking to the ice in preparation for the role.

And now the teaser trailer for the film has finally been released.

The clip opens with Robbie snubbing a cigarette with the tip of her ice skate's blade.

Accompanied by brief scenes in the film, Robbie says in a Portland accent: "America, they want someone to love. But they want someone to hate. And the haters always say Tonya tell the truth. There's no such thing as truth I mean it's bullshit!"

The film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in October to rave reviews and already has 90% rating on RottenTomatoes.

In an interview with Vanity Fair Margot reveals that what made her sign on for the role as star and producer was the script.

She went on to reveal that she didn’t initially know who Harding was and that it was a true story.

“I thought it was entirely fictionalised and our writer Steve was so creative to come up with the quirky characters and absurd incidents," says Margot.

Speaking about her transformation for the role Margot says they had an incredible hair and make-up team. She also trained four months with a choreographer to up her skating skills.

The film releases in South Africa in February 2018.
