Cape Town – The full trailer for Angelina Jolie's film, First They Killed My Father has been released.
The film is based on Loung Ung's memoir of her childhood during the communist Khmer and the country's 1970s holocaust in which 1.7 million people were killed.
It tells the story of Ung's survival and her escape to Thailand in 1980 when she met her brother and his wife.

For Jolie who is friends with the author this has been a long running passion project.
In earlier interviews Jolie said she felt a deep connection to Cambodia and that she wants to respect its history and bring a film to the world that will not only show the hardships of war but the dignity and resilience of the people. (Read more here)
Her son Maddox who was born in Cambodia was very involved behind-the-scenes.
The film releases on Netflix in September.
