WATCH: Viola Davis gives powerful speech after winning first Critics’ Choice Award

Cape Town – Viola Davis took home the first ever #SeeHer Award at the 22nd annual Critics' Choice Award. 

The award was born out of the #SeeHer ANA campaign which fight against bias against women in media and advertising. 

In her powerful speech she opened up about how she learned to accept herself despite Hollywood expectations. 

"I truly believe that the privilege of a lifetime is being who you are, and I just recently embraced that at 51, "said Davis.

Davis also took home the Best Supporting Actress for her role in Fences, alongside Denzel Washington the pair reprise their roles from 2010 Broadway revival.
