WATCH: Viola Davis receives a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Cape Town – Viola Davis received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday.

The How To Get Away With Murder actress was presented with one of Hollywood’s highest honours by her Doubt co-star Meryl Streep in an emotional ceremony.

Upon presenting the honour, Meryl said, “The thing Viola can’t do, is be invisible...

“She can’t fade away, she can’t recede, she can’t be forgettable. Viola Davis is inevitable, she’s like a sure thing and her star has been waiting here patiently for 50 years for her...

“Thank you for the amazing gift that you have given me and everybody here. I just look forward to more and more and more from you.”

The Academy Award nominated actress then took the stand to thank everyone and paid tribute to her late father.

Viola said, “I was going to treat this like every other day, I wasn’t going to cry or anything. I just...the only thing I can think about is my dad, I wish her were here. He died in 2006 and he would think this is pretty fantastic.”

The 51-year-old has been nominated for two Academy Awards, one of them being for her performance with Meryl Streep in the 2008 film Doubt.

Viola took to Twitter shortly after to share her gratitude and excitement.
