Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel

What the movie's about:

The loveable singing and dancing US family-favourite Chipmunks are back with the hilariously titled 'Squeakquel' to their half-computer animated, half-live action hit of last year.

Jason Lee of My Name is Earl Fame returns as Dave Seville, ubiquitous friend and manager of the singing sensation that is Alvin, Theodore and Simon AKA The Chipmunks. The creatures themselves are re-voiced by Justin Long, Jesse McCartney and Matthew Gray Gubler respectively.

This time round the fellows end up being looked after by Seville's twenty-something nephew Toby (Zachary Levi) and must put aside music superstardom to return to school. Whilst there, they discover they must also save the school's music program by winning the $25,000 prize in a battle of the bands.

But the Chipmunks unexpectedly meet their match in three singing chipmunks known as The Chipettes - Brittany, Eleanor and Jeanette. (Anna Faris, Christina Applegate & Amy Poehler) and before they know it romantic and musical sparks are ignited when the Chipmunks and Chipettes square off.

What the critics have to say:

"Every time an adult ended up in traction or broke wind, the three-year-olds in the audience were freshly ecstatic."
- Liam Lacey, Globe and Mail

" It's one that will keep little moviegoers happy without driving their parents too squirrelly."
- Linda Barnard, Toronto Star

" It's not entirely Thomas's fault: What are you going to do with those fat-cheeked, helium-voiced singing critters but slap together enough "awwww" moments to make the toddlers happy and enough knowing winks to keep parental bums in the seats?"
- Ella Taylor, Village Voice

" At one point, Cross's character takes a full-frontal hit in the groin from an errant toy motorcycle."
- Michael O'Sullivan, Washington Post
