Aquamarine is the story of Claire (Emma Roberts) and Hailey (Joanna Levesque), two 13-year-old best friends who embark on the adventure of their lives when they discover a mermaid (Sara Paxton) named Aquamarine in a swimming pool.

Aquamarine washes ashore during a storm and ends up in the pool of the beach club where Claire lives with her grandparents. Claire and Hailey are trying to come to terms with the fact that Hailey is moving to Australia with her marine biologist mother.

Aqua swam away from home just before her arranged marriage, in search of real love. If she can prove to her father that love is not a myth, he'll let her out of the wedding, but he's only giving her three days. Aqua sets her sights on lifeguard Raymond Calder (Jake McDorman) and promises to grant Claire and Hailey the wish of their choice if they help her reel him in. the girls jump at the opportunity to stop Hailey from moving.

The girls hope that as long as Aquamarine can keep dry (and thus avoid sprouting her massive tail) everyone will see their wishes come true. More importantly, they learn some important lessons about the power of friendship, the true magic of love.

What the critics are saying:

"Girls under twelve will probably lap it up, but director Elizabeth Allen (making her big screen debut) fails to give the story a cinematic breadth."
- Stella Papamichael, BBC Movies

"The plot is predictable, the emotions are obvious, and the mermaid reminds me of my friend McHugh explaining why lobsters make ideal pets: They don't bark, and they know the secrets of the deep."
- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

"Sweet and sprightly in just the right measures, Aquamarine is one of the season's pleasant surprises."
- Joe Leydon, Variety

A light-hearted and fluffy fantasy about two girls helping a mermaid find her true love. If you're 8 to 13 and female, chances are you'll love it.

Just another typical Tom Cruise action film, with nothing to get too excited about. The film is loaded with action-film stereotypes and cheesy one-liners. Read More »

Hands of Stone

2016-10-14 07:38

Hands of Stone is a bland, unlikable portrayal of a real-life boxer that struggles to hit the highs of Rocky IV let alone Raging Bull or the original Rocky. Mark this one down as “for boxing fanatics only”. Read More »
