Fantastic Mr. Fox

What it's about:

Mr and Mrs Fox (voiced by George Clooney and Meryl Streep) live an idyllic home life with their son Ash and visiting young nephew Kristopherson. But after 12 years, the bucolic existence proves too much for Mr Fox’s wild animal instincts. Soon he slips back into his old ways as a sneaky chicken thief and, in doing so, endangers not only his beloved family, but the whole animal community. Trapped underground with not enough food to go around, the animals band together to fight against the evil Farmers - Boggis, Bunce and Bean - who are determined to capture the audacious, fantastic Mr Fox at any cost.

What the critics thought:

"Children, especially, will find things they don't understand, and things that scare them. Excellent. A good story for children should suggest a hidden dimension, and that dimension of course is the lifetime still ahead of them."
- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

"Fantastic Mr. Fox is a retro marvel that should delight today's audience."
- Lou Lumenick, New York Post

"Other filmmakers turn to children's stories when they have kids of their own. Anderson seems to have made this one for his inner child."
-Ty Burr, Boston Globe

"Anderson's stop-motion Fantastic Mr. Fox is both a delightful amusement and a distillation of the filmmaker's essential playfulness."
- Mary F. Pols, TIME Magazine

"It provides a pleasantly cerebral experience, exhilarating and fizzy, that goes to your head like too much Champagne."
- Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times
