Lawless

2013-01-27 17:02

What it's about:

The true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers (played by Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf and Jason Clarke): bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Virginia. In this epic gangster tale, inspired by true-life tales, the loyalty of three brothers is put to the test against the backdrop of the nation's most notorious crime wave.

What the critics said:

"The unflinching slicing and dicing is viscerally brutal, but without sufficient character development Lawless simply feels lifeless."
- Claudia Puig, USA Today

"An inescapable sense of 'so what?' sets in early with Lawless, almost as soon as Shia LaBeouf begins his lackluster opening narration."
- Ann Hornaday, Washington Post

"Historical authenticity and pulp fiction blend nicely in Lawless, a lush-looking drama full of blazing Tommy guns, fast jalopies, brutish men and delicate women."
- Rafer Guzman, Newsday

When the law became corrupt, outlaws became heroes.

Great film, great acting. It surprised me so much. Tom Hardy stood out for me; such a charisma on screen! Beautiful light and music. So much chemistry between Forrest and Maggie, wow!

Fed Up

Fed Up has an important message to impart but its dry presentation and doom-and-gloom approach seems destined to undercut whatever good it so clearly wants to do. Read More »
