Nick (Michael Cera) is the only straight band member of "The Jerk Offs" and is heartbroken when his girlfriend, Tris (Alexis Dziena), dumps him. Nick believes that he can win her back by sending her special mix CD’s, but Tris only throws them in the trash. However, Tris' college mate Norah (Kat Dennings) has retrieved most of them and is impressed by the cover art and music. Norah has never met Nick, but the music he loves touches her heart.
A chance encounter leads to an all-night quest to find a legendary band's secret show and ends up becoming the first date.

It's an alternative romance, dedicated to the B-side of love.”- Ann Hornaday, Washington Post“Even the biggest churl imaginable will find it hard to resist the palpable chemistry that emerges as the two flirt, fight or simply bliss out in the presence of each other.”- Peter Sobczynski, eFilmCritic.com“[Director] Sollett is able to take familiar teen tropes and transform them into low-key magic.”- David Ansen, Newsweek
