Paul Blart: Mall Cop

2009-03-13 12:19

What it’s about:

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry star Kevin James takes on the role of a single dad in this largely physical comedy. Paul Blart is a man determined to support his mother and daughter, so he takes the rather unglamorous post as a security guard at his local shopping mall. He never complains, approaching the job with impressive diligence and pride, but doesn't get much respect for it.

What we thought about it:

This no-brainer is really something to watch if you're looking to get away from it all. A fat cop wanting to prove that he's more than just your everyday mall cop. Pity his weight and hypoglycemia got the better of him when he took the test to be a New Jersey state trooper.

Throw in a prospective romance (even though his mom and daughter sign him onto an internet dating site) and misfits who are disguised as Santa’s helpers wanting to rob the mall and its Paul Blart to the rescue. With his attempt at saving the mall, it’s more about proving his capabilities to himself and giving him the confidence he needs most.

Kevin James was hilarious in the sitcom The King of Queens and even funnier in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry but this movie doesn’t do any justice to his abilities and neither does it do much to our funny bone.

To watch or not to watch is the question? I’d say go for it if there’s nothing better to watch.

Funnyman Kevin James takes the role of a single dad in this largely physical comedy about a hard worker who has never landed his dream job of being New Jersey state trooper due to his excess weight.

Just another typical Tom Cruise action film, with nothing to get too excited about. The film is loaded with action-film stereotypes and cheesy one-liners. Read More »

Hands of Stone

Hands of Stone is a bland, unlikable portrayal of a real-life boxer that struggles to hit the highs of Rocky IV let alone Raging Bull or the original Rocky. Mark this one down as “for boxing fanatics only”. Read More »
