Drama (2002)
Synopsis:Victor is a man who gets to Paris to join his family around their seriously ill father, Max. As the chance of selling the family business begins to disrupt the family relationships, Victor is desperately asked for help by Max. What seems in the beginning mere delusions of an old man losing his mind, begin to show traces of some sort of real "secret" that is troubling Max's last days. Victor decides to help his father to find that something (maybe just peace) he is searching for.

FOOTBALL DAYS (DIAS DE FÚTBOL)

Director: David Serrano
Cast: Alberto Sanjuan, Ernesto Alterio, Natalia Verbeke, Pere Ponce, Fernando Tejero, Roberto Álamo
Running Time: 1h55min
Comedy (2003)
Synopsis:Jorge is thirty and thinks his life cannot get any worse. He finds his work depressing, and his girlfriend leaves him when he asks her to marry him. But things can always be worse and to see the truth in this he only has to look at his friends. Ramón cannot decide what gets at him most; his wife's crazy ideas or his lost battle against baldness. Gonzalo has been studying law for as long as he has been looking for a girlfriend. Carlos hopes to become an important actor, but has got no further than a minor part in the teleshop. Miguel is a policeman and the father of a family but his dream is to be a singer-songwriter; that is if his wife lets him. The brilliant solution for changing their lives is to set up the football team they had in their youth and finally win something in live even if it's only the Football 7 trophy.

THE LIFE THAT AWAITS YOU (LA VIDA QUE TE ESPERA)

Director: Manuel Gutierrez Aragón
Cast: Juan Diego, Luis Tosar, Marta Etura, Celso Bugallo
Running Time: 1h48min
Drama (2004)
Synopsis:Rural drama set in a breathtakingly gorgeous province of northern Spain. Gildo is a hardworking dairy farmer facing hard times, while his two daughters dream of escaping. When Gildo´s fellow farmer is murdered, he is the main suspect, and when the dead man's son moves to town, matters are complicated further.

THE SEVENTH DAY (EL SÉPTIMO DÍA)

Director: Carlos Saura
Cast: Victoria Abril, Juan Diego, José Luis Gómez, Ramón Fontseré, Eulalia Ramón, Ana Wagener
Running Time: 1h43min
Drama (2003)
Synopsis:On an isolated pueblo in the heart of the Spanish countryside, the seemingly familiar story of fickle young love unravels to incomprehensible tragedy when the spurned lover, Luciana Fuentes, expresses a vengeful wish on her seducer in the presence of her fragmented, devoted brother Jeronimo who, in turn, executes his sister's wish, resulting in 30-year prison sentence, the shame on the Fuentes family still proves to be terrible burden as the townspeople continue to treat the siblings with open contempt and derision, culminating one day in a suspicious fire that engulfs the family home and escalates the deeply entrenched family feud.

TIOVIVO C-1950

Director: Jose Luis Garci
Cast: María Adánez, Francisco Algora, Ángel de Andrés López, María Asquerino, Aurora Bautista, Fernando Fernán Gómez
Running Time: 2h30min
Drama (2004)
Synopsis:Tiovivo has virtually no plot, and limits itself to representing the lives of a bunch of people in the Madrid of the post-war era. The cast is simply impressive; it looks like just any actor who was available was summoned by Garci to star in his film. All of them make the most of their bit parts in this ensemble piece, but the heart and soul of the picture is Aurora Bautista, who plays a destitute woman who sells religious stamps.

The 2006 Spanish Film Festival launches at the Brooklyn Cinema Nouveau screened by Jameson (Pretoria) from 6 -12 October, moves to Rosebank (Johannesburg) 13 - 19 October, then to Gateway (Durban) from 20 - 26 October and finally concludes at the Waterfront (Cape Town) from 27 October - 2 November.
