Set against the glitzy backdrop of the French Riviera and its seedy underworld, The Good Thief is the story of Bob Montagnet (Nick Nolte) a lovable anti-hero about to gamble it all on the casino heist of a lifetime. Bob hopes to pull off a spectacular sleight of hand - two heists, one real, one not, but which is which? Bob draws his inspiration from the man he regards as the greatest thief and copycat of all...Picasso.
Under the watchful eye of Roger (Tcheky Karyo), a policeman who would as soon save his longtime opponent as arrest him, Montagnet assembles a team that consists of partners Paulo (Said Taghmaoui) and Raoul (Gerard Darmon), technical mastermind Vladimer (Emir Kusturica), former-drug-dealer-turned-informant Said (Ouassini Embarek), Anne (Nutsa Kukhianidze), a young Eastern European girl Montagnet rescued from prostitution, and the perfect complement to a double theft - identical twins Albert and Bertram (Mark and Mike Polish).
What the critics are saying:
"The grizzled Nolte is perfect as the mumbling, stumbling Bob..."- Tom Dawson, BBCi"Noir isn't quite noir in "The Good Thief." It's more like a creamy cup of hot coffee with a shot of good bourbon on the side -- invigorating, relaxing and ending with a warm mellow kick."- Charles Taylor, Salon.com"Nolte brings a raspy authority to the role, and director Neil Jordan (The Crying Game) surrounds him with colorful characters..."- Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

Hands of Stone is a bland, unlikable portrayal of a real-life boxer that struggles to hit the highs of Rocky IV let alone Raging Bull or the original Rocky. Mark this one down as “for boxing fanatics only”. Read More »
