The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

2006-03-30 12:08

Allan Quatermain, the world's greatest adventurer, leads a legion of superheroes the likes of which the world has never seen. Quatermain's extraordinary League is comprised of Captain Nemo, Dracula vampiress Mina Harker, an invisible man Rodney Skinner, American secret service agent Sawyer, Dorian Gray, Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde and M--the League's enigmatic recruiter.

The League members are staunch individualists, outcasts in fact, with checkered pasts and singular gifts that have been both blessing and curse. Now they must learn to trust each other and work as a team for the very hope of civilization.

With little preparation and no time to lose, they will be transported via Captain Nemo's extraordinary submarine, the Nautilus, to the frontline of defense: Venice, Italy. There, a masked madman known as the Fantom plans to sabotage a conference of world leaders by setting off a domino chain of explosions, sinking the entire city.

The threat is catastrophic, the risks are staggering. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen has 96 hours to save the world.

What the critics are saying:

"...ultimately you have to judge the film on its own terms. Had I seen it when I was 14, I'd probably have thought it the greatest film ever made, and even now the 14-year-old in me is impressed and pleased that it has been made."
- Jonathan Ross, Film 2003

"...the movie plays like a big wind came along and blew away the script and they ran down the street after it and grabbed a few pages and shot those."
- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

"Except for Connery, who is every inch the lion in winter, nothing here feels authentic."
- Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's acclaimed graphic novel comes to vivid life on the big screen. Unfortunately the celluloid version lacks any coherent plot and most of the magic of the original comics.

This movie ROCKS As the critic said: "had I seen it when I was 14 I would have thought it was the best movie ever made. Well, I saw it when I was thirteen (am 14 now) and I LOVED it (still do). You have to look beyond the acting and at the CHARACTERS and STORY that's what counts. Dorian (Stuart Townsend) ROCKED!!! I thought that the cast of characters; skinner, sawyer, dorian, quartermain ect. all gave the movie a sense of companionship. Not a movie...a BOOK: The Picture of Dorian Gray. DORIAN GRAY ROCKS

Just another typical Tom Cruise action film, with nothing to get too excited about. The film is loaded with action-film stereotypes and cheesy one-liners. Read More »

Hands of Stone

2016-10-14 07:38

Hands of Stone is a bland, unlikable portrayal of a real-life boxer that struggles to hit the highs of Rocky IV let alone Raging Bull or the original Rocky. Mark this one down as “for boxing fanatics only”. Read More »
