Transformers

What it's about:

The Autobots, a race who promote the sanctity of life, have for centuries squared off against the Decepticons, who exterminate all biological life in their wake. When their world is destroyed as a result of the war, the aliens make Earth their battleground as they search for the lost key to unlimited power. The fate of the "free" world lies in the hands of an unsuspecting teenage Earthling Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf), who - together with his at first unwilling friend Mikaela (Megan Fox) - must help save the third rock from the sun.

What we thought of it:

With out-of-this-world computer-generated imagery and high octane Michael Bay action sequences infused with laugh-a-minute comedy, Transformers is already everything a guy could want from a movie. Now add scorching hot bods, adrenaline-pumped battles and witty banter… and that's just the machines.

While the plot is predictable and at times just plain corny, this feature film spin-off of the Japanese toy line makes for a highly enjoyable 144 minutes.

Even though the movie is scripted, LaBeouf's comic timing is spot on while his foxy co-star lives up to her surname. Also, watch out for a classic Bernie Mac and Anthony Anderson performance, the heroic and hot efforts by Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson, and an unfortunately below average attempt by Jon Voight to add authority to the film.

Acting aside, Transformers should be enjoyed for its motion effects. Be prepared for jaw-dropping in-motion transformations and breathtaking CGI integration with the "real world".
