Troy

Throughout time, men have waged war. Some for power, some for glory, some for honour - and some for love.

In ancient Greece, the passion of two of literature's most notorious lovers, Paris, Prince of Troy (Orlando Bloom) and Helen (Diane Kruger), Queen of Sparta, ignites a war that will devastate a civilization.

When Paris spirits Helen away from her husband, King Menelaus (Brendan Gleeson), it is an insult that cannot be suffered. He and his brother Agamemnon (Brian Cox), King of the Mycenaeans, unite all the tribes of Greece in a quest to steal Helen back from Troy.

The walled city, under the leadership of King Priam (Peter O'Toole) and defended by mighty Prince Hector (Eric Bana), is a citadel that no army has ever been able to breach. One man alone stands as the key to victory over Troy - Achilles (Brad Pitt), the greatest warrior on earth.

Arrogant, rebellious and seemingly invincible, Achilles has allegiance to nothing and no one, save his own glory. It is his insatiable hunger for eternal renown that leads him to attack the gates of Troy under Agamemnon's banner - but it will be love that ultimately decides his fate.

Two worlds will go to war for honor and power. Thousands will fall in pursuit of glory. And for love, a nation will burn to the ground.

What the critics are saying:

"...a hugely entertaining film, sprinkled with moments of brilliance."
- Stella Papamichael, BBCi Film

"This big, expensive, intermittently campy example of Hollywood Homerism is desperate to be regarded as a classic. It isn't, but it's not so bad either."
- A.O. Scott, New York Times

"This is The Iliad as a WWE SmackDown: violent fights, snappy insults and a connoisseur's idolatry of beautiful brawn."
- Richard Corliss, Time Magazine

Hollywood has captured the epic scope and brutal majesty of The Illiad in a highly entertaining film. Unfortunately the film lacks all the nuance and resonance of that great classic.

Wow - brilliant cast equals brilliant movie This movie had the best male actors ever seen. Although Brad Pitt was totally gorgeous and Orlando Bloom makes your heart swoon, the guy who steals the show is definitely Eric Bana - both in looks, body and acting!! I'm in love....

Great Battle Scenes THE BATTLE SCENES WERE SOME OF THE BEST & WORTH THE BLOOD SWEAT & TEARS IT TOOK TO TRAIN AND COORDINATE 1500 SOLDIERS ON SET IN EXTREME CONDITIONS. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL THE BULGARIAN & MEXICAN EXTRAS FOR GIVING IT THEIR ALL. Great entertainment well worth seeing.

what is this movie trying to be? this movie had all the potential to be spectacular, but instead merely wallows in the mediocre. while nowhere near being insufferable, it was just so... average. weak dialogue compounded a poor screenplay and the whole storyline seemed forced - a far cry from the epic of the original illad. cgi may look good and grisly battle scenes might wow the action junkies, but anyone looking for a more complete experience is bound to be disapointed. if it's an epic you're after, stick to braveheart or gladiator. this one is doomed to slip into obscurity.

Absolutely Epic Movie The portrayal of the story without the involvement of the Gods, but yet the showing of where the myths and legends could have come from was impressive.

Troy The love story between Helen was the heart of this story. This was not very well done. The whole movie seems to revolve around Brad Pitt. If one ignores the Historical facts which are changed, the movie is worth watching. Not in the same class as Gladiator.

lower your expectations...... and you will enjoy this movie. Unfortunately I went to see Troy with "Gladiator" expectations and was disappointed. The story and characters of Helen and Paris were extremely underdeveloped which is a shame considering Helen was the face that launched a thousand ships. Ultimately the bodies were worth a look or two, so it definitely was not a waste of time. Van Helsing for special effects
