La La Land is all the rage in Hollywood right now.
In case you somehow missed it the musical has set a record at the Golden Globe awards winning in all the categories it was nominated in (7).
Continuing its record breaking streak it racked up an impressive 14 nominations for the Academy Awards.
And you're probably wondering, is this movie really worth all the hype?
The answer is simply, YES.
La La Land has thrust musicals back into the spotlight and it's glorious.
The film is everything I love in a movie: Great dancing, a catchy score, colourful costumes, leads with great chemistry and a realistic love story.
It is a homage to other classic musicals and also to pursuing one's dreams.
Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are the new movie power couple.
This is the pair's third film together and their chemistry is just one of the things that make this film so great. Nothing between them feels forced they are naturals in these roles.
A pleasant surprise was John Legend who plays a successful mainstream jazz artist. He handled the role with a cool swagger.
While our lives might not all be a musical we can all relate to the central theme of the story – pursuing a dream, the successes and the failures and sometimes letting go of one dream to fulfil another.
