-
CHRIS EVANS: The tall and toned star of The Avengers is probably the closest match physically to Lance Armstrong. The role could also give him the opportunity to show a dark side to that innocent face.
-
CHANNING TATUM: The Magic Mike star and People Sexiest Man Alive for 2012 has the physique and innocent look to pull off the role.
-
CHRIS HEMSWORTH: The bulky Australian actor is best known as Thor in the Marvel movies. This would be a great role to stretch his dramatic chops.
-
SAM WORTHINGTON: The gruff Aussie star of Avatar has the boyish good looks - but like Chris Hemsworth, could be too bulky to play the trim and toned Armstrong.
-
JAKE GYLLENHAAL: Jake has been a friend of Armstrong's for some years and joined him in the Discovery team car for the 2006 Tour de France Individual Time Trial. Jake was then linked to another movie based on Armstrong's life, which has been in development for years, to be based on his bestselling autobiography It's Not About The Bike. That project is most likely dead now.
-
EWAN MCGREGOR: The Scot has proven himself to be incredibly versatile, playing lovelorn writers in musicals, rock stars, villains and Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Stars Wars prequels.
-
JEREMY RENNER: Twice Oscar nominated for playing anti-heroes (in Iraq War drama The Hurt Locker and crime thriller The Town) Jeremy certainly has the resumé to play the duplicitous cycling celebrity.
-
JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT: Joseph is no stranger to big screen roles (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, Lincoln) and has the youth to portray Armstrong through the darkest days of his doping. JGL also showed off his cycling prowess in the 2012 thriller Premium Rush in which he played a daredevil New York bike messenger.
-
LEONARDO DICAPRIO: Leo needs a surefire Oscar winner already.
-
MATT DAMON: Another cycling enthusiast (he competed in the Cape Argus Pick 'n Pay Cycle Tour in Cape Town in 2009), Matt is rumoured to be at the top of producer JJ Abrams' casting wishlist. And as someone who has portrayed heroic rugby players, soldiers and secret agents, he is perhaps best qualified for the job.
-
MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY: Lance Armstrong's long-time friend was left devastated by his doping confession and will likely not want to be associated with the film. But that won't stop Abrams and his cohorts from courting him for the coveted role.
-
MICHAEL FASSBENDER: The Irish heartthrob has proven himself to be one of Hollywood's most wanted (he currently has 8 films in production). Michael is a physical match for the role and is no stranger to playing conflicted souls. Anyone who has seen him in sex addiction drama Shame will be convinced.
-
RYAN GOSLING: Handsome, charismatic, mischievously alluring - Ryan seems born to play the role.
