Al Green - Lay It Down

2008-06-29 16:22
Meant to be a collaboration album, Lay It Down features the exceptionally talented vocals of young neo-soul artists Anthony Hamilton, John Legend and Corinne Bailey Rae, all long-time fans of one of the world's last great soul singers.

Green speaks to the lovers through his instantly recognisable old school soul sound, effortlessly leaping from a subtle modal register to a falsetto one and back again. His Memphis Soul influences permeate all the tracks from the sultry "Stay With Me" to the lilting "Just for Me" and the slow "Too Much", with funky bass lines, harmonizing horn arrangements and silky guest vocals.

If you're in need of some serious soul food, let Al Green Lay It Down. Can you dig it?

The Reverend Al Green lays down 11 soul-filled romantic singles straight from the heart, keeping it real in an old-school kind of way.
