Arthur - Vanilla and Chocolate

No track on Vanilla & Chocolate is likely to grab quite the attention "Sika Lekhekhe" did but it's enough to fuel a few hot and sweaty summer parties.

It's neatly produced with that boombox-friendly SA pop sound that we all know so well - kudus to the Dream Team for a neat job there. It features a host of also-famous collaborators (Zondi, Londi, and Lydia) and thanking God in it's elegantly-designed liner notes, but a bit thin on tracks (numbers 11-13 are instrumental versions of others on the album.)

And guess which old hit gets another go? "Sika Lekhekhe". Is this addictive but questionable little number still offensive a few months down the line? Well that sure depends on what you do to the person you're grooving with to it, and how old she is.

Highlights? "I like the Way" (featuring Londi) with its sing-along friendly opening and rapped verses, and the title track - the guitar line wandering through the chorus sets it apart from the rest and it would probably upset the average protective Pa in Oranje and the golfing dads of Newlands, if they ever heard it.

Arthur's back with another album of upbeat, vibey, tuneful dancehall flavoured kwaito - his fourth and not likely his last.

Bad Who is this? Our own P.Diddy? The last good album Arthur released was before the millenium. And what about the talent he has uncovered then destroyed or tried to destroy, i.e Purity, Ishmael, Queen, Mzet,Stichman. It's only a matter of time b4 his latest Cash Cow, Chomee, sees him for what he is and leaves.U'r music's a pain on our ears.
