Backstreet Boys - Unbreakable

We saw a move towards a more adult contemporary pop style in their disastrous Never Gone two years ago. Unbreakable is another attempt to reach out to an older audience who’ve grown up with them.

So does it work? Or are they trying too hard? Well, there’s a lot of experimentation in the album which is always a good thing. The guys have moved away a little from the puppy-love songs to horrid, upbeat jams like “Everything But Mine”, hip joints such as “Any Other Way” and the more “One in a Million”.

They even try their hand at that quirky, synthetic sound only Timbaland can master with “Treat Me Right”. Old fans aching for the Backstreet Boys they know and love should rather listen to “Inconsolable”, “Something That I Already Know” and “You Can Let Go”.

This is definitely not the Backstreet Boys we fell in love with. There are only four of them now, they are getting older and yes, their music is also evolving.
