David Guetta - One Love

He may only have been voted the third biggest DJ in the world - well, that's according to the DJ Magazine anyway – but ask any house music fan who their favourite spinner in 2009 is, and the name David Guetta is sure to come up trumps, not Dutch house whizz Armin Van Buuren .

On his third studio album, pertinently titled One Love, the French jock worked with prime time American stars such as Kelly Rowland, Akon, Will.I.Am and Ne-Yo. So it's little wonder then, why this techno fuelled cocktail of club bangers is making David the hippest name in electro house music…and just maybe, he'll eventually outshine Armin to take pole position.

"When Love Takes Over", which features Kelly Rowland on breathtaking soulful vocals, kick starts the jam packed offering. The Destiny's Child diva can definitely sing, and David's prowess in house music production is clear as daylight on this thumping bass with a dash of piano track, making the duo's complementary combination second to none. American house fanatics seem to agree for this song held the number one spot on the U.S Billboard Dance Charts for a quite a while. Rowland adds a bit of funk on "It's The Way You Love Me" and also "Choose", on which she partners with Ne-Yo .

Just when you think David used Rowland as an opener only to lure you in and leave you hanging – he pulls another rabbit out of his musical hat, this time unleashing Akon on "Sexy Bitch", which has already been lapping up the attention on dance floors and airwaves galore. It's vintage Akon on this provocative yet sexily put together song which took after its predecessor - "When Love Takes Over", by creeping up the U.S Billboard Dance Charts to firmly sit on the number one spot.

It's a pity though that the fast-paced "On The Dancefloor" featuring Black Eyed Peas member, Will.I.Am doesn't quite live up to its name. I fear it might not keep as many fans on the dancefloor as it might wish because of its repetitive and boring lyrics. "Turn it up!" is heard all over the song. How often are we expected to shake it to that tired old refrain? That's all made up for, however, on a remix of Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling" which is already a club anthem. It's a noisy and masterfully crafted piece that is set to send any discerning music lover into a frenzy. It's a concoction of hard-hitting bass and ear splitting guitar blended with instruments that make it one of the better songs on the package.

The album ends off on a more laid back tip with "If We Ever". Though it's a good track, it passes more as R&B/Pop than anything else. And let's not forget the title track, "One Love", which is the definitive listen. British soul siren Estelle is remarkable on vocals, and the lyrics – as the name suggests, are positive and will get any party in a feel- good mood. It's a fitting title track, from an accomplished album that is certainly set to win David more groupies than he already has.
