Gabrielle - Always

Granted her signature semi-nasal voice (think a rasp-free Macy Gray) is still pleasant, and her trademark look of covering her drooping eyelid with a patch, sunglasses or hair is still cute, even for a 37-year-old single mom. But her CD is all over the place.

There’s some 60s soul, R&B, and Brit pop, but sadly none of it is mind-blowing. Her simple acoustic guitar riff poppy second single “Every Little Teardrop” is slightly better, but still not strong enough to match the soulful beauty of her biggest single "Dream" from her debut album. A sad reality when you consider how talented Gabrielle once was.

Gabrielle’s first single from Always is a mediocre dose of mid-tempo Brit pop “Why”. The question that springs to mind is: “Why did she bother”?
