Ghetto Lingo - Pump it Up

2006-03-29 21:16

Pump It Up is a pretty good album, with Ghetto Lingo showing off their vocal ability and home manufactured talent, and even chipping in on the song writing

Though their spirited debut is no landmark album, this new kwaito flavoured group is backed by some of SA's top names. The title track "Pump It Up", and "Juliana" have D-Rex in the producer's chair. Beat Maker produced "If U Wanna Ride" and "Oh, Oh". Gabi Le Roux who's best known for his work with Mandoza and Danny K, gives "Got to do It" and "Fede Fede" some punch.

The boys collaborated with the distinguished M'du ("Kasi Lam", "Siblomile") and and the first-rate Helio ("Thina Sigroova Kanje").

Let's hope Ghetto Lingo keep their funky vibe on the local music scene long enough to mature into a kwaito powerhouse, because these boys might not be as ghetto as they like to think, but they're certainly down with the lingo.

After weeks of scouring five South African cities and interviewing 15 000 wannabes, panel judges Zwai Bala, Azania and The Admiral crowned Ghetto Lingo 2004's POPSTARS. Sibusiso Tshangase, Martin Phike, Phillemon Moikanyane and Bjorn Blignaut make up the funky, urban-edged boy group who have now released a 15-track album.
