Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds - Playlist

Yes, some people say he’s soooo old school. But they forget that Babyface was the driving force behind most of our favourite R&B stars. Having produced and composed music for over two decades for many R&B and pop musicians including Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Madonna, Mariah Carey and Mary J Blige – it’s safe to say Mr Loverboy knows what he’s doing.

In this collection of mellow, R&B tunes he confirms once again that he’s got a good ear for sculpting a groove. Whether it’s Dan Fogelberg’s cheesy "Longer", Bob Dylan’s classic "Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door" or Eric Clapton’s remarkable "Wonderful Tonight", he always adds his own soulful spin. One song that will blow you away is his remake of James Taylor’s 1968 smash hit "Fire and Rain" written while he was in rehab.

Babyface does give us a reminder of what he’s capable of with poignant originals "The Soldier Song" and "Not Going Nowhere" – the former comforts people who’ve lost loved ones in the war, while the latter re-assures his son that he’ll always be there even after the divorce.

Playlist is devoted to songs which made Babyface fall in love with music in the first place. He’s put together a superb collection of ballads perfect for snuggling up with your man on a Sunday afternoon. Though he adds a wonderful feel to these covers, we sure hope he’ll be releasing a CD of original work soon.
