Carter IV is Lil Wayne’s 9th studio album and 4th of the Carter series. This was one of the most anticipated hip hop albums of the year, and Mr Carter did not disappoint.
The usual suspect Drake makes an appearance in the top ten charting hit "She Will" while John Legend cameos on a track called "So Special". Andre 3000,Bun B, Nas, Tech n9ne,Shyne & Busta Rhymes also show up throughout the album.
"Six Foot Seven Foot" ft. Cory guns will definitely get you to the dance floor with its catchy beats and clever rhymes. The album's 2nd official single "How to love" is different but a treat to listen to, and Wayne sings throughout the song with the help of an auto tune.
The track that stands out from the rest is "Mirror" featuring Bruno Mars; well written and thought provoking, Bruno’s emotional voice adds so much gravitas to the song and reveals the reality in hip hop. "John" with Rick Ross is on that gangster grill, a good combination and well written, can't help but think about Tupac and Biggie when it is playing.
The song that got most attention and controversy is "It’s Good" with Drake and Jadakiss, for it was thought to be a Jay-Z diss track. If it is, we wouldn’t mind to have some competition and see who snatches the throne. Wayne emerges as a good lyricist in the way he writes and structures his verses, there are quite a lot of clever lines that hip hop followers will like.
This album has definitely mirrored the success if its predecessor by debuting at number 1 on the Billboard hot 100 charts, and breaking the Jay Z & Kanye iTunes record. Carter IV has booked a place in your CD rack.
