Sergio Mendes - Encanto

2008-04-02 09:00

Fans familiar with his cocktail of hip hop, neo-soul and reggaeton artists on his commercial breakout comeback Timeless (2006) will find Encanto a smoothly satisfying listen. Besides return cameos from pop hoppers Fergie & Will.i.am on "The Look of Love", "Funky Bahia" and "Agua De Beber", Mendes brings in jazz singer Natalie Cole on "Somewhere in the Hills", Latin pop rock pin-up Juanes on "Y Vamos La", Italian rapper Jovanotti on "Lugar Comun" and Belgium 'world ' music combo Zap Mama on "Les Eaux De Mars".

Even with this impressive roll call of global guests Encanto still has a very distinctive Brazilian sound. But ultimately it's the big name genre-hopping hook-ups that prove the perfect vehicle for Mendes to slowly but surely re-introduce his infectiously sexy 60s and 70s Brazilian grooves to the new millennium generation.

Sergio Mendes continues his global pop infusion with a Colgate white smile on this star studded set of stylized, smooth Brazilian lounge jazz.
