Simphiwe Dana - An Evening with Simphiwe Dana: Live in Concert

From lighting up international stages to getting her CD’s reviewed by global media outlets, Simphiwe Dana’s traditional Xhosa pop music defies many limits. Not even geography stands a chance.

Her three albums Zandisile, The One Love Movement on Bantu Biko Street and Kulture Noir are collector’s items. And she’s got a gallery of prestigious awards, platinum and gold plaques to prove it – that’s if you insist.

Yet again she throws another musical punch. Forget boxing rings, this one was recorded live on stage. An Evening with Simphiwe Dana: Live in Concert is a double disk offer featuring a 27-piece orchestra.

In more precise words, it is an album of 16 plus two bonus tracks randomly selected from her previous releases, but also features a few outsourced golden oldies like Angelique Kidjo’s Malaika and Miriam Makeba’s Meadowlands. By the way Malaika is Kidjo’s ode to Makeba.

Live records are not everyone’s cup of tea. That’s why Dana’s firm disciples will find amusement in what could otherwise be a musical jail sentence.
