Stanton Warriors - Remixes

2007-09-18 12:48
Remixes is a post-modern compilation of their latest mix- and mash-ups of trendy dance tunes. The UK’s most innovative DJ duo twist and squeeze recognised tracks to unleash the freshness and flavour of their own sound.

Boosted by popular hits such as Gorillaz “Feel Good Inc” and Fatboy Slim’s “Demons” this album is their ticket away from the fringes and into the mainstream limelight. The Stantons are ready to preach their gospel to the world.
Unfortunately, with the move into the mainstream their music had to be streamlined - which means less of that dancehall, ragga roughness and more house-flavoured instrumental sleekness as on Tim Deluxe's "It Just Won't Do" and Layo & Bushwacka's "Love Story". They do show their street roots however, on booty-bass beaten and bombing bass lined original production “Shake It Up”.

Highlights on the album are electro dance anthems Azzido da Bass’ “Dooms Night” and Basement Jaxx’s “Jump and Shout”. Remixes also features master MCs The Beatnuts, and singer Macy Gray.

The best thing about the album is how they skilfully rip up and change a song halfway through, throwing in a new hook-up and making the tune unrecognisable. So if you aren’t into a song at first, wait for it… wait for it…wait until the bass drops and the Warriors pump it on a jump-up tip and you’ll feel them rolling it out Stanton style.

Pumping nu-skool breakbeats straddling block party rhythms and hip-hop flavoured MC rhymes – that’s the only way to describe Stanton Warriors’ latest Remixes lucky packet.

Cool If I enjoyed the clips of this album enough to make me want to go out and buy the album - something old skool but different - really funky!
