The Killers - Day & Age

Day & Age
This sounds like ... dunno, David Byrne going down and dirty with the bloody Pet Shop Boys? Yes, I'm talking head. But shocking as it is, and silly as it sounds at times, The Killers make it work, for the most part. And as long as you keep your windows wound up to protect your social standing, it makes for pretty fine driving music.

Ghosts of Blue Nile and other under-the-radar 80s heroes echo through hits like "Human". "Spaceman" is disposable Bowie set offbeat and taking its time. And the atmospheric and danceable "Joy Ride" will have you not just getting down, but blowing cheesy-bubbles. Not their best work, but think of this as "meta-Killers". And probably, just an intriguing refreshment stop on the way to the big explosion.

What the hell do these guys think they're doing? They had something really good going with their deliriously jealous rock songs, back then.

Here's another giant step in the 80s revival. "Human" proves OMD's enormous influence;"Spaceman" is the lost U2 / Joy Division collaboration and "Losing Touch" is a Robert Palmer groove with that dweeb from Maroon 5 crooning over it. I couldn't listen to "Joy Ride" long enough (too much like all that bad funk we thought had gone away)but if you're nostalgic for a time when Madonna actually was a cutting edge girlie singer - the 1985 revival begins here!
