No doubt the Irish boys are dope. They’ve got great voices which harmonize well together. But we’d love them even more if they were real and didn’t stick to the late 90s boy band formula with tacky lines such as “I’m the sunshine in your hair” and “I’m the whisper in the wind” in the sappy ballad “I’m Already There”. Girls just don’t fall for that anymore.
If you’ve been following their music since the 90s, you’ll know that these boys don’t take many musical risks. All the songs on Back Home have the same sound: one sensational soloist backed-up by a choir in the chorus and then the song climaxes with a higher note after the second verse. No surprises at all. But we still love them. And hate them.
We know we deserve more than this tried-and-tested formula of sentimental ballads but we still go back for more. Great songs to look out for are “When I’m With You”, “Us Against the World”, “Pictures in My Head” and covers of Michael Bublé’s “Home” and Brandy’s “Have You Ever”.
