Willim Welsyn en die Sunrise Toffies - Kompos en Kraai

So, the young Willim Welsyn en die Sunrise Toffies have emerged into a destitute non-genre. Unfortunately, their slightly punkified interpretation comes off smelling of Voëlvry verkramptheid. There aren’t enough new ideas, or well-executed old ones, to make a killer album.

Plain music is often saved by mind-expanding lyrics, but the fact that “Jy is so hartseer soos ‘n skoolhoof wat sy pianis verloor” can become the cornerstone of a six-minute epic cements a disappointing truth: Kompos en Kraai is not good enough.
