Interview: David Guetta

French house music producer and DJ David Guetta was in awe of Cape Town from the moment he jetted into the city last Friday.

The Grammy-Award winner travelled with his wife, Cathy. They have two chilren - Tim Elvis Eric (7) and Angie (4) - but decided to make to trip to SA alone to enjoy some quality time together.

Guetta performed at Thunder City in Cape Town on Friday and at Wild Waters in Johannesburg over the weekend. Both concerts were sold out and many local fans raved about his performance on Twitter.

Speaking to Channel 24, Guetta said that he's always excited to perform with Akon and was thrilled to be in South Africa with him. “We're good friends and we have enjoyed great chemistry together, since we recorded Sexy Bitch in 2009. He's such a musical genius and I enjoy working with him.”

Collaborating

Guetta is known for collaborating with various artists from various musical genres, it's from his latest album Nothing But The Beat that Guetta said will bring another memorable hit for his die-hard fans.

“Without You is a song a did with Usher and I believe it's going to become a worldwide hit. I can predict it's going to be another David Guetta classic and it may very well be one of the biggest hits this summer,” he said.

Guetta’s new album  includes the smash hits "Where Them Girls At" featuring Flo Rida & Nicki Minaj, and the killer single "Little Bad Girl" featuring Taio Cruz & Ludacris.

Nothing But The Beat features no fewer than 17 guest artists, including hip-hop royalty Snoop Dogg and Timbaland, along with R&B superstars Usher, Chris Brown and Akon – plus Guetta’s “fellow mad scientist” Will.I.Am from the Balck Eyed Peas.

“I produced about 40 songs to get these 13 records together,” Guetta explains. “I wanted every song to be huge, phenomenal.”  South Africa was one of the first countries worldwide to experience the hottest new beats from the album, live on stage, after the album was released worldwide early last month.

Beauty

Speaking about South Africa, Guetta was full or praise of the country as well as the beauty the city of Cape Town had to offer.

“Cape Town is beautiful and I am thrilled to perform here. The previous time I visited in SA, I couldn't share the beauty of SA with anyone and literally was here to two days, and this time around I get to see more.”

“I love the fans all over the world and where I go, I feel the love they have for my music. The fans in SA are very special too and it's great to be able to perform here,” he said.

After the Johannesburg leg of the concert festival, Guetta went on safari at the Kruger National Park where he could show his wife a bit of SA and it's big five animals.

“My wife has been longing to go on a safari and I'm excited I could make sure we stayed two extra days to do this.”
