There were many factors that made this the absolute best gig I have ever been to, but the best thing I recall was looking around in the golden circle and seeing an old white lady enjoying herself; a middle aged indian family man in the moshpit; a teenager with absolute terror in his eyes, but with a HUGE smile on his face.
I also remember two metal-heads behind me saying (while jumping up and down) "this is f***ing unbelievable!!!"
Metallica had given us what we as South Africans had been starving for...something that is above and beyond age groups, colour, ethnicity, wealth, success...a band that brings all people together... A dream come true!
I was there, right in front of the lines with my best friends.
I have seen many bands after Metallica in 2006, bands like Rammstein, Korn, Staind, Muse, U2, Linkin park, Seether, 30seconds to Mars etcetera, but none of those bands could even compare to the Metallica gig simply because you knew you had the biggest, baddest Metal band of all time staring right at you from the stage. Those other bands worship Metallica.... as they should!
I cannot wait to see and experience the next chapter in the "Metallica and South Africa" love affair.
Sanity WILL be lost!
