Metallica was money well spent

I have been a huge fan (in my mind the biggest) besides the long lines and heat, far away parking (just about had to hike from your car to the gate) the excitement and thought of being a few hundred metres from your hero's growing up, far outweighed anything that could possibly be endured.

We had bought our tickets months before when we heard they were coming to South Africa, and it seemed every few weeks was Christmas when they announced new A list bands filling the line up!!

With the likes of Seether (formally known as Saron Gas, which my friends and I had met before they were signed up in the states), The Rasmus, and one of my all time favourites Collective Soul (who in my opinion was one of the most mind blowing performances of the day. To mention but a few....

When Metallica finally came on as the last and longest performance, James Hetfield (lead singer and co writer) the first thing he said to the crowd was "We've been waiting for you!" To which the crowd screamed and cheered!

After the first song James threw the guitar he was playing on into the crowd, they continued ripping through a list of epic songs from their earlier albums right up until their latest (At that stage the St Anger album). At the end Lars (drummer and co song writer) dished out his played through drumsticks to the front rows of the crowd.

Try as they did the crowd screamed for more and Metallica delivered, returning to the stage!

Not only were there rock bands but also a separate section with international dance DJ's, an opportunity I had to forego as the rock performances were back to back and as it had taken that long for SA to stage a star studded line up like that, I was worried I would never have an opportunity like it  again.

Although there were a few problems (not enough food and drinks stalls) it was money well spent, and even if things were twice as bad........ I would do it all over again!
