The Text Only Quickie:

On female artists that inspire her
Phew… there’s so many! I’ve had an opportunity to work with Dorothy Masuka. I’ve had an opportunity to work with umam’Busi Mhlongo. Those are two of the female artists that are basically legends. There are so many more. We wanted to work with umam’Miriam Makeba. I also wanted to work with - on my solo album – Letta Mbuli but because she releases her own solo album later this year I couldn’t. But she is one person I’d love to work with.

On collaborations
I’ve featured male artists on this album. I’ve feature Robbie Malinga , who is one of the producers on the album. I’ve featured Nana Coyote from Stimela. I’ve also featured a guy called Sash. But In terms of song writing I’ve included two female songwriters: Nokukhanya Nciza, Thabiso Seikwane.

On fave tracks on the album
My favourite track…okay of course the first single is my favourite. My other personal favourite would be the first track which is “Izophela in Ntlupheko”. It’s a very motivational song, very inspirational. It talks about the current situation in S A whereby people have lost hope because there’s high rate of unemployment, high rate of people infected with HIV/Aids. So I’m basically saying to people just hold on and be strong, you know, don’t give up hope. That’s on of the reasons why it’s one of my favourite track. On the clothing line
Phew… I launched so many things this year. I also launched a clothing label called NN Vintage. I’ve been getting so many compliments in terms of my look and my style. Sometimes I’d buy something and change it to make it mine, you know, give it my signature. And people would ask me: “Where did you get that” And I couldn’t say, because it’s something that I’ve put together. So I decided, you know what let me just share this one thing –along with the music- with the people, with my fans. That’s why I decided to launch this clothing label. Basically it’s the kind of clothes you’d see me wearing; it’s Nhlanhla on stage and off stage. Of course there’s that touch on my clothing of the 20s through to the 70s, 80s era. That’s what people should expect from the range.

On her iPod
I listen to a lot of female artists, actually. I’ve got Simphiwe Dana, Letta Mbuli, Thandisa, Siphokazi, Lira and of course I’ve got my CD! (laughs)
