Heatseekers: Rising SA Stars to look out for in 2008!

2008-03-04 07:51
BLK JKS that’s who! If you’ve been living under a rock for the past five years you better wake up and recognize. These motherland rockers are about to explode! The band has been around since 2003 in various forms but the current members Linda Buthelezi (guitar and lead vocals), Mpumi Mcata (guitar), Molefi Makananise (bass) and Tshepang Ramoba (drums) have been solid for the past three years. They’re currently finishing off their debut LP After Robots Stateside where they’re currently touring. These brothers are bringing motherland rock back to its roots and emancipating Mzansi minds from mainstream sounds.

The world is already catching on as they are currently gracing the cover of the March edition of America’s Fader magazine’s Africa Issue. These cool Jozi jam rockers are not about colour or creed. These dudes are just about the music. None of that ‘Rainbow Nation’ nonsense and making believe you can fly crap. It’s all about the music and interlacing different styles, sounds and influences to create a highly contagious urban Zulu, blues, mbaqanga and funkdafied rock vibe. Their self produced and released debut single, Lakeside is the track that caught Fader’s attention and urged them to hunt out these cool Jozi cats.

In addition to that, “Lakeside” is crushing in Japan. According to their website, they have Japanese press all excited and recorded a song for a Japan-only limited edition 7in record.

“We could either implode, explode…or give the continent super powers” they say. Well we say, watch this space!
