DJ Sbu goes back to Yfm
Popular Ukhozi FM breakfast show host DJ Sbusiso Leope is on his way out of the public broadcaster according to the Sunday World. DJ Sbu is bidding farewell to Ezasek’seni Breakfast Show, which he co-hosts with Sbonga Zungu and heading back to Gauteng’s struggling YFM. The show was awarded the best radio show in the country at the Stars of Mzansi Awards last month. DJ Sbu left YFM in a huff with other famous DJs after a tiff with management two years ago. Sbu left at the same time as DJ Fresh, who went to 5FM as well as BadboyT, his live-in-lover Unathi Nkayi and Adil More - who all joined Metro FM. Sunday World sources allege that DJ Sbu refused to renew his contract with the Durban-based Ukhozi FM, which expires at the end of this month. A reliable source says DJ Sbu will be replacing out-going Rudeboy Paul at YFM. Rudeboy Paul resigned two weeks ago and DJ Sbu will be taking over the breakfast show when the station unveils their new line-up at the beginning of April. Eish home is where the heart is after all.

DJ Exodus at Y-FM
Gauteng youth station 99.2 - Yfm has dropped the radio industry practice of slapping restraints of trade on disc jockeys at the end of their contracts of employment. All new contracts signed by the station going forward will no longer bind presenters to being off air for a period once their contract with Yfm is concluded. The new ruling kicks in with the new programming year of April 2008 through March 2009. Yfm CEO Kanthan Pillay, says the practice of restraints for deejays is outmoded, anticompetitive and based on a misconception that the presenter is bigger than the brand. “Broadcasters have had this crazy idea that when deejays leave a radio station, they will take their audience with them,” says Pillay. “Our experience is that this is not the case. In spite of having said goodbye to some of the big names in broadcasting a year ago, we have grown our audience share year on year.”When deejays leave Yfm, it’s mostly because they no longer appeal to our core market,” says Pillay. Right, so Sbu is the exceptional to the rule then.

Winehouse to rock the party
Amy Winehouse is set to get £500,000 to serenade George Clooney and Julia Roberts according to Bang Showbiz. The troubled singer has been offered the astounding amount to perform at the Costume Institute Gala Benefit at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5, organized by institute co-chairs George and Julia. Sources allege that she's seriously considering their generous offer and hasn't really taken it in. All she keeps saying is that her life is getting more surreal by the second. Well if you are high all the time, it’s bound to feel that way baby girl! Fashion designer and honorary chair Giorgio Armani will be hosting the glitzy bash. He’s a huge fan of the Grammy Award winner and reportedly pleaded with organizers for her to be involved. Apparently Giorgio is keen to work with Amy and sees the party as an ideal opportunity to sound her out about future projects together. You go girl! Now stay away from drugs because your life as an entertainer comes with plenty of natural highs as it is.

HHP’s star still shining bright
Back in Mzansi - what would entertainment be without Jabba? Last year he was the man when he amused Mzansi audiences with his Strictly Come Dancing victory and all; he got engaged to his partner of seven years and recently won a Stars of Mzansi award. Now, he has signed an 11 episode-acting contract with e-tv’s Rhythm City reports the Sowetan. "It’s absolutely amazing to be integrated into a show I watch on a regular basis," he says. And that’s not all, the man is set to play himself. "I am looking forward to the experience," he enthuses. He is also a nominee for the South African Music Awards this year. This includes the much-coveted Best Male Solo Artist and Album of the Year categories. “I don’t look at this as luck, rather a long-deserved blessing. It’s harvest time for me,” he chuckles. Go Jabba, it’s your birthday, you gonna party like it’s your birthday!

Bouga and Gasa in love again
Self-confessed drug addict turned pastor and kwaito star Kabelo Mabalane and his socialite former girlfriend Noni Gasa are back in each other’s arms reports Sunday World. Wait up, didn’t the two lovebirds break up in 2005? Uh-huh. The couple split because Gasa was not ready to settle down, while Mabalane was reforming from his wild ways. A source close to the couple alleges that they’ve been back together since November 2007. They were seen holding hands at the Audi Joburg Fashion Week last week. They were also seen smooching at a Morningside video shop where they hired romantic movies. Word has it that Noni desperately wanted to move on after she broke up with Kabelo but she realized that she couldn’t do without him and decided to swallow her pride and come back to him. Mabalane says: “I can’t comment for personal reasons. Please respect that.” “You have your information and you know you are going to write a story anyway. I can’t comment,” was Gasa’s response. “I don’t want to be rude but I’m having lunch. “Send me an e-mail. I will check it when I get home.” Eish the Bold and the Beautiful or is it beauty and the priest?

A star is born
Oprah Winfrey says Leona Lewis is going to take the US by storm reports Bang Showbiz. The singer appeared on Oprah's US talk show on Monday 17 March and blew the audience away with her amazing performance. Right after her performance, Oprah announced; "A star is born!" Leona's debut album 'Spirit' is set for release in the US on April 8, complete with two new bonus tracks masterminded by Akon and Madd Scientist. Earlier we reported on how Leona was left "overwhelmed" when Whitney Houston said she was a "baby version" of herself. The British star met her "all-time musical hero" at producer Clive Davis' Annual Grammy Party in Los Angeles, but could barely speak when she was introduced to Whitney. "It was amazing, I got to meet my all-time musical hero Whitney Houston - who looked so incredible, she said. I don't think I managed to say much though, I was overwhelmed! "I was told afterwards that when I performed she had said to a friend at the record label, 'My God, she's a baby me!' Wow - what a huge compliment!" A huge compliment indeed – musically that it is– marry a bad boy that will get her hooked on drugs too.

On a sad note
90s Kwaito star William Makhubela aka Mawillies passed away on Tuesday evening 18 March at his home in Soweto. The Sowetan reports that the 38 year old Mawillies had been ill for a whileand his manager Evo Dos Ramos says they suspected TB because of the symptoms he had. They were planning to take the singer to hospital but it was too late. Mawillies is famous for his hit in the 90s “Thula Mabota” and had just finshed recording his latest album Shark is Moving.
