Channel O ‘Sprit of Africa’ Music Video Awards
The nominations for the Channel O Sprit of Africa Music Video Awards are out. Fleet footed HHP leads the pack with 5 nominations, closely followed by Nigeria’s D’Banj and Uganda’s E.A.B.C with four each. Other South African candidates include soulful songbird Lira, Afro-pop duo Mafikizolo, rappers Teargas, kwaito kingpin Kabelo and the ubiquitous urban pop pin-up Danny K. The awards take place at the Johannesburg City Hall, on October 11, at 8pm. Eish, what happened to Sin City or the Dome? Well, lets hope Channel O has the funds for VIP lighting and sound. It’s really not cool when everyone looks shiny and you can’t hear performers lip-synch. Whatever. Voting ends October 4. Make sure you rock the vote for your favourite artist by SMS or. online

Black Eyed Peas are back
Pepsi-fied urban pop crew the Black Eyed Peas are coming back to SA for a one night stand. No, Fergie,, and Taboo are not shooting a new Pepsi ad, they’re playing live at the Expo Centre in Johannesburg on October 12. Expect Fergie and to drop a few of their new solo hits, after Bongo Muffin work it Mzansi style. Golden Circle passes are selling for R350 and general entry tickets are R150. At that price we hope they’ve got some free Doritos.

Britney gives us more rubbish
Britney Spears is back with a new song, “Gimme More” and yes it sounds exactly like her previous songs but ten thousand times worse. Try this opening gambit on: “It’s Britney, bitch”. No wonder the song got slated when it debuted on a New York radio station recently.
Anyway, Brit will probably be milking “Gimme More” at this years MTV Video Music Awards. This despite musical director Timbaland’s insistence that she’ll over shadow the other performers. At the moment Britney is still in the middle of negotiations with MTV music execs. Lets hopes she strikes the pose, because God knows it’ll make for good TV.

Mariah Carey debuts new album in hot tub
Ms Mariah, who has been busy working on her first new material in…well, ages decided to test the water by literally testing out her new music in the water. She played her new songs to her girlfriends as they soaked together in a hot tub.
Mariah said, "I sat in the hot tub the other night playing some songs for some friends and one of them felt it was a very pro-woman kind of thing. And I was like, 'You know what, I didn't do that intentionally.' But she felt that it was a very empowered-woman moment." Yeah right. Blabbing on about girl on girl action is just about the oldest marketing tip in the book.

Druggy Pete didn’t save Amy
It has now been revealed that Pete Doherty was with Amy Winehouse on the night she almost died of a drug overdose. The real shocker (well not a real shocker, this is Pete Doherty) is that he allegedly did nothing to try and help her as she collapsed.
The two were introduced by mutual friends a year ago and after Amy married Blake Civil-Fielder in June they remained friends and the trio have reportedly regularly used heroin together. Classy.
Recent photographs of Amy and Blake holidaying in the Caribbean show the singer is still using heroin. Amy is seen lounging on a beach with creepy red sores on her arms, a tell-tale sign she is injecting.
With a crappy husband and Pete Doherty in her corner there doesn’t seem to be a lot of hope for Amy. Well, there is still that rehab option….

Kylie Minogue is shaking it up
Dynamite Aussie pop diva Kylie Minogue is primed to release her first single since being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005. Kylie was inspired to write the electro-pop balled “2 Hearts” after listening to dance anthems in Ibiza clubs. She told Britain’s The Sun newspaper, “We are now in the final stages of the album and are having to make some difficult but exciting decisions about which songs will stay and which ones will go. But I think you can safely say that “2 Hearts” will be staying. I started working on this album a year-and-a-half ago and can’t believe it is nearly finished.” The single and album are out in November. Glad to have you back Kylie.

Who will top the Christmas charts? (Who Cares)
Who will be number one on the coveted UK Charts this Christmas? Will George Michael be able to win with the new Christmas song he is writing for the Spice Girls or will it once again be an X-factor idol’s hit? George Michael is confident he can pen a hit for the band to challenge the winner of this year's X Factor (the British TV talent show).
Last year, X Factor winner Leona Lewis claimed the Yule Tide top spot, while Shayne Ward, another winner from the hit show, was king of the Christmas charts the year before.
George Michael, Spice Girls, X-Factor (Simon Fuller)? Don’t these guys already have enough money, will someone please tell me where all the good music has gone?

In this week’s We Heard WHAT?: Channel O Awards nominations are in, Black Eyed Peas are back, Kylie goes heart-core, and Britney gives us more rubbish.
