10 pics that capture the happy, hip faces of Up The Creek

Cape Town - It is amazing to think that Up the Creek has been running annually for a quarter of a century.

This spectacular celebration of music and buoyancy, held on a picturesque farm just outside Swellendam, attracts a crowd like no other.

From two-tone plaasjapie old-timers to undercut-sporting tattoo-covered hipsters, all manner of folk come together to float on the Breede River and be merry.

In its 25th year of existence, this past weekend’s event saw another resounding success.

A string of local bands entertained the crowds and the international act from Japan, called Sawagi, made sure that festival goers of all creeds were left well and truly smiling.

Not even the cold weather on the Saturday could stop the fun, as people simply broke out their appropriate apparel and continued with the festivities.

The stylish party people were out in full force, here are what some of them had to say:

1. Adrian Van As, 31

"It's lekker to be lekker when you're lekker."

2. Fabio Hess, 21 (from Switzerland)

"I've been to many, many festivals but never with surroundings like this."

3. Lyle Lucas, 28, (L), and Rhys Woods, 27

"Don't braai under water, it attracts sharks." (Lyle)

4. Salad Barnaby (L) and Bovine Brewery

"Rock salamanders are only as wise as the moss upon which they prosper."

5. Taylor Boye, 23

"This festival is magical and intimate, I'm so happy to be here."

6. Zac Rusogara

"At ease soldier."

7. Guy Kleinhaus, 24 (from the UK)

"I met some cool Afrikaans guys with a guitar, they were great and I loved it."

8. Jessica Lee, 26, (L) and Gemma Hancock, 22

"Wats jou van?"

"Ja I'm having lots of that." (Jessica)

9. Jessica Hopley, 30
