5 quick questions with local pop singer Ryki

Cape Town – Local pop singer Ryki recently released her self-titled debut EP.

Ryki released her latest single from the EP, Throw You Down, earlier this year. The EP also includes two previous radio singles, namely Please Try feat. Aewon Wolf (produced by Sketchy Bongo), and Time (produced by Deemo).

We had a quick chat with Ryki about her debut EP:

Your debut EP is out, what is the most exciting part of releasing your EP?

I get to show people what I've been working on and how I've grown since I've been on the search for my 'sound'. It's letting people know who I am and although it's scary it’s so exciting because I want my followers to get to know me better.

Can you describe the EP sound in one sentence.

Same vocal delivery, new production, different emotions and lyrical directions.

What’s your favourite track on the EP and why?

One of the songs I wanted on my EP had some complications and we decided to put a filler in and register it on iTunes so long. So me, David and Bubele basically had two days to make a song that’s already on the EP. Whether we liked the song or not. We had one chance! The song’s name is Bad Intentions and we all were super-pleased with it! Thinking about making it the next single... We even got Manu in to record the same day we made it because we felt it needed a rapper. He was the perfect fit. It was so organic and true the way we didn't overthink it.

What was the most challenging part of making the EP?

There were no hectic challenges. I had fun and just focused on making music that was real and learning from the artists and producers around me.

What are your plans for the rest of the year and where can people see you perform next?

I'm planning on doing more live performances and just focusing on my courses in production, sowing, guitar and piano.
