6 South African music events you can’t miss this winter!

Cape Town - Missing summer and searching for some hot events to shake off the winter blues?

Look no further! We’ve got you sorted with these killer gigs in May and June 2014.

Whether you’re a rock, electronic or hip-hop fan, there’s something coming up for you.

Check out these music events that you can’t miss:

1. The Fluffy Fundraiser Festival   

Rock out to some incredible local musos including Woodstock Mafia, 7th Son, Die Melktert Kommissie and many more at Hillcrest Quarry, Durbanville to save the Uitsig Animal Rescue Centre on Sunday, 18 May 2014.  
Local company, SA Music scene organised this event to save the Cape Town animal safe haven which provides a secure home for 500 furry friends. So you’ll be saving puppy lives AND having a good time. Such a win-win.

2. St. Lucia SA Tour 2014

Indie darlings and local talent done good St. Lucia are back from New York for a hotly anticipated South African show in Cape Town on Saturday, 31May 2014.

Pumping out hits like Before the Dive and Elevate and with opening acts like Shortstraw (currently in heavy MTV rotation with their hit Couch Potatoes) and Al Bairre who have music fans abuzz with something new and fresh. Check out the full ticket details here.

3. Extra Cold Music Concert Produced by Timbaland

On Saturday 7 June 2014, Castle Lite will be hosting hip hop heavy weights Nas, Wiz Khalifa and uber producer Timbaland at Supersport Park, Centurion.

This ice-cold show will span the generational divide bringing together old school hip hop fans who will gravitate towards the power of the ever Illmatic Nas while young heads will love Wiz Khalifa who just produced Nicki Minaj’s latest banger Yasss Bish and is married to Kanye’s ex-girlfriend Amber Rose.

They’ll be playing alongside local favourites DJ Clock, Zakes Bantwini, Mi Casa, Black Coffee and many more. Get all the details here.

4. Armin Van Buuren

Trance superstar DJ Armin Van Buuren (What if feels like and Waiting for tonight) is doing an insane 6-hour-set on Saturday, 14 June 2014 at Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg for one night only.

5. 30 seconds to Mars

Grammy and Oscar award actor Jared Leto and his band will be exploding onto South African shores on Friday, 13 June 2014 at the Grand West Arena in Cape Town and on Monday, 16 June 2014 at the Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg with sweltering hot opening act: Beatenberg.

Music fans will know that this isn’t the first time for the supergroup in the rainbow nation (their first time a couple of years ago left everyone clambering for more) and Cape Town band Beatenberg’s song Pluto is burning up airwaves across the continent. Click here for all the details.

6. Tori Amos

Music Icon and piano playing pixie Tori Amos will tinkle the ivories on 26 and 27 June 2014 at The Teatro Montecasino in Johannesburg and on 29 and 30 June 2014 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

If you’re younger and love Regina Spektor you’ll love Tori Amos. This red-headed beauty has been in the music industry longer than Justin Bieber has been alive and offers a show that will soothe your soul as well as entertain you. Click here for more details.
