6 music events you can’t miss this summer

Cape Town – Want to attend some awesome events over the next month or two but don’t know what’s happening?

Whether you’re a rock, electronic or folk fan, there’s something for everyone happening soon.

Check out these music events that you can’t miss:

1. Rage Festival 2016

Rage Festival boasts The Sound Factory with its five stages, 26 club nights across the KZN East Coast, more than 90 major international and local artists. Two weeks. One Passport. A lifetime of memories, only at Rage Festival.

International acts include South London’s multi-talented TroyBoi, Brazil’s Vintage Culture, Melbourne’s bounce maestro Brynny and psy trance DJ Ghost Rider. Local acts include Goldfish, Da Les, DJ Invizable, Huckleberry, Royal K, Mooi, Bomb Squad, Kallisto, Cayoss, Evida, Feedback, Park, Smiddie and many more. 

The festival kicks off on Saturday 26 November until 3 December.

2. Wavescape Fish Fry

Join celebrity foodies, surfers, ocean activists and scientific experts for a festive get-together near Cape Town on Saturday, 26 November.

Wavescape Fish Fry, presented by WWF-SASSI, brings the surfing community together for an evening of fun and fish braaing, as part of the Wavescape Festival, which is presented by Pick n Pay. Come and rub shoulders with shapers, artists, environmentalists, and surfers, including celebrities with a passion for the sea starting 6pm at Jack Black Brewery.

The entertainment includes a curated exhibition of surfing photographs, live music by DJs Cath and Dune Tilley, a braai competition featuring four celebrity chef teams to raise awareness about sustainable seafood consumption.

3. Malkop Summer Rock Festival

After a hugely successful first Malkop Summer Rock Festival in 2015, the festival is back in 2016 in one of the country’s most beautiful regions. 

The festival is taking place on 2 and 3 December at Malkoppan Guest Farm in Lamberts Bay and will feature 24 of the best rock artists in the country (including the likes of Albert Frost, Francois van Coke, Koos Kombuis and many more).

4. Afrikaans Rock at Shimmy Beach Club

Afrikaans Rock, in partnership with Klipdrift Brandy, will celebrate the biggest names in South African music, brought together, for the first time, on the iconic stage at Shimmy Beach Club on Saturday 3 December.

The line-up includes Jack Parow, Karen Zoid, Fokofpolisiekar, Francois van Coke and Die Heuwels Fantasties.

5. River Republic

River Republic is a festival brought to you by the same team that brings you Up the Creek every year. Same river, different venue. Beautiful green grass, tall trees and a stage next to the water. Meet new people, make friends for life, and for a while forget your city strife.

The festival will be taking place from 2 – 4 December 2016 at Round The Bend Camp, Breede River, Swellendam.

The line-up includes Adrian Gemini, Crimson House, DJ Dirtroad, Forefront, Hans Zen, Hugo.Hugh, Jackal and the Wind, Manouche, MCCREE, Nate Maingard, ROBFATHER, Sir Sean Young, Slow Jack, Southern Wild, The Jackie Oh`s, The Liminals, Tom James(UK), Veranda Panda and Tuin.

6. Smoking Dragon Festival

Want to ring in the New Year with a bang? Then the Smoking Dragon Festival is for you! Back for its 6th year, the festival is taking place from Thursday 29 December to Sunday 1 January and has expanded to 4 stages including The Main Stage, Cherch Electric Jungle, Fringe Stage and the sparkling new Ripple Zone, complete with a dam, look-out deck and bar. The perfect location to jam in the water while watching some incredible acts! 

Upping the game this year they have packed over 40 acts into this 3-day festival.

International acts that will be performing include Stelth Ulvang of The Lumineers and US band Tudo Mundo. The local line-up include acts such as Grassy Spark, The Rudimentals, The Kiffness, Tidal Waves and more.
