A quickie with Deep Fried man ahead of Savanna Comic’s Choice Awards

Cape Town –One of the funniest young comedians in South Africa took time out of his busy schedule to have a quickie with us and it had us rolling in the aisles.

Get ready for a fun ride because he doesn’t hold back...on his opinion about deep fried foods.

Channel24:

How do you feel about your nomination for breakthrough act at Savanna Comic’s Choice Awards?

Deep Fried Man:

"I feel cool (about it), I mean it’s not something where someone would go ‘wow that made me feel kak to be nominated for’ you know? It’s great. I’m happy about it. I’ve been nominated three times for this category so hopefully this time I win (sic)."

Channel24:

Tell us how you write new material?

Deep Fried Man:

"Well there’s a specific formula on Late Night News where I do something called the Morale index...I work with each guest artist we have and collaborate with their sound. Each week has a different sound. We’ve had so many different people on from Simphiwe Dana to Josie Fields."

Channel24:

Who are your biggest local comedic influences?

Deep Fried Man:

"That would be the guys I’m working with now Loyiso Gola, Kagiso, David and everyone I work with on LNN. I used to watch them on the Pure Monate Show at home and loved it.

And John Vlismas, I never wanted to do comedy until I saw John Vlismas perform at Grahamstown. I thought comedy was all knock-knock jokes and rubber chickens until I saw him and realised that comedy can be edgy... provocative."

Channel24:

Will you be performing at the awards and if so, will you be collaborating with anyone?

Deep Fried Man:

"Yes, I will be performing at the awards. I can’t say too much about it, except that it won’t be a rap battle."

Channel24:

Deep fried bananas or deep fried butter?

Deep Fried Man:

"How do you deep fry butter?"

Channel24:

Well, we looked it up and it has to be really cold then you can put it in the fryer.  It’s pretty great.

Deep Fried Man:

"That’s disgusting. It’s the worst thing ever. It sounds like if you had a bite you’d have a heart-attack. Tell everyone I’m against that."

The Savanna CCA ceremony takes place at The Teatro, Montecasino on Saturday, 2 August 2014.
