A quickie with Monark

Cape Town - About the quickie: If you haven't realised it yet, we love a quickie here at Channel24. They're a brisk and fun way to get to know your favourite artists without rolling in the deep too much (sometimes we like that too though.)

About Monark: They're a pop rock band from Gauteng who are setting the music scene alight with their strong melodies and signature vocal stylings.

Here are 5 Things / Secrets you didn't know about Monark:

Q: You guys have such an international sound, where are you from?

A: We are 100% home-brewed South Africans. The strangest thing we've come across is that many people think we are from America, the UK, or Europe. Once someone told a friend that she knew for a fact that we are Adam Levine's new band. Well, we are not. We are flattered, but also trying our best to let people know that we are true South Africans who love this country as much as we love music.

Q: That’s so great, are you working on anything new?

A:  That leads to the second thing: Our, soon to be released album (Wednesday, 9 July 2014), is proudly South African. It is the tendency, for South African bands to seek out producers and mastering engineers from overseas. We believe that this country hosts musical professionals who compete on an international level. That is why our album was written, arranged, produced, mixed and even mastered on home soil.

Q: Any embarrassing stories from the road?

A: One of our band members, who will remain anonymous for the duration of this interview, was responsible for the sudden loss of customers of a certain coffee shop, since he and a friend was writing Afrikaans "Bokjol" treffers in that coffee shop. Their method was basically singing each idea at the top of their lungs. This went on for months.

Q: Who’s the worst driver on the road?

A: We are the only band where the band members shotgun to sit at the back when Eugene is driving. They are too terrified to sit in the front. Things sometimes get intense, since he does not like the view of the back of a truck. Of course he doesn't understand this phenomenon and keeps up the good job of being a responsible driver.

Q: What’s the band’s biggest vice?

During the process of the album, we went through forty kilograms of coffee beans.

If you're into this, then you'll most likely dig our quickie with MGMT's frontman Andrew.
