Absent SAMA winners 'weren't invited'
Cape Town – Guitar duo CH2, the winners in the category for best classical and instrumental album at the 18th annual South African Music Awards (SAMAs), were not invited to the awards ceremony which took place on Monday, reports Die Burger.
According to CH2 members Leon Gropp, 28, and Corneille Hutten-Burger, 30, they never received an official invitation to the ceremony or any form of communication from the organisers.
"It leaves a bittersweet taste in the mouth, because one would've wanted to be on the stage. But we're very excited to have won," Gropp told Die Burger.
SAMA spokesperson Bronwyn Coppola said that all the artists were invited to the ceremony by their respective record labels and confirmed that information regarding the ceremony was sent to CH2's record label, Leo Music.
CH2 however said that no such information was received by their record label.
Leo Music spokesperson Nadia Scott could not be reached for comment.
CH2 won a SAMA for their song Ping
and are known for their energetic instrumental performances.
