Adele to perform Skyfall at the Oscars

Los Angeles - Adele will perform Skyfall at the Oscars next month.

The 24-year-old pop star is set to perform the latest James Bond theme at the 85th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, and says she will never experience anything like it again.

The Someone Like You hitmaker said: "It's an honour to be nominated and terrifyingly wonderful to be singing in front of people who have captured my imagination over and over again. It's something I've never experienced and probably only ever will once!"

The track, which Adele co-wrote with Paul Epworth, has been nominated for Original Song, the first Bond theme to get the Oscar nod since For Your Eyes Only in 1981.

It has already seen success, winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song earlier this month.

Four minute celebration

Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, producers of this year's Academy Awards, hailed the songwriter-and-singer's "unique artistry".

"She is currently one of the most successful recording artists in the world, and we believe that her performance of 'Skyfall' will be an exciting Oscar moment," they added.

Her performance will be part of a celebration to honour the spy series' 50th birthday, making it the longest-running franchise of all time.

Academy bosses are hoping to add Sean Connery to a line-up of actors who played the legendary agent, who they hope will gather on stage as part of a four minute celebration.

If Sean agrees, it would complete the set including current Bond actor Daniel Craig, Sir Roger Moore, George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan.
