Cape Town - South African soccer star Benni McCarthy is dedicating his new song to Bafana Bafana and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, which kicks off on 19 January, reports the Sowetan Live.

The song, titled Viva Africa, was released early in December 2012, and has been aired on radio stations such as Kaya FM and YFM.

Benni joined several artists such as Dome and the famed hip-hop crew Team Tswara to record the song.

McCarthy will not be playing in AFCON due to injury concerns.

Another track in the works

Speaking about the song to Sowetan Live, he said: "The message in the song really encourages Africans to believe in themselves, to work together, to go higher and see no limit."

His manager, Percy Adams confirmed that he is currently recording another single as a tribute for Orlando Pirates supporters, who he wants to thank for their support during his career with the team.

Adams said that the track is titled Amabhakabhaka and will be released during Orlando Pirates' next local match.

McCarthy previously featured on a TKZee track titled Shibobo.
