Big Concerts teases big announcement

2012-06-15 13:56
Cape Town - Big Concerts is getting ready to make a big announcement.

The event organiser teased on its Facebook and Twitter pages on Friday that they will possibly announce the name of an act or artist on their way to perform in South Africa.

The announcement is due to be made on Gareth Cliff's show on 5FM on Monday 18 June between 06:00 and 08:00.

There has been much speculation about what the announcement will reveal.

Many think Lady Gaga is on her way to South Africa as a music blog has listed her tour itinerary, speculating that the pop diva is due to play Johannesburg and Cape Town in February 2014.

Others think it is likely Madonna will be named, as she is currently on her MDNA World Tour.

Foo Fighters, Radiohead, Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Nickelback are just some of the big-name acts on the wishlists of commenters on Big Concerts' Facebook page.

Tell us your thoughts on the big announcement and who you would want to see perform in SA.

  • charlesdumbwin.dumbwin - 2012-06-15 14:43

    I have a suspicion it's Iron Maiden

      james.m.turner.35 - 2012-06-15 14:50

Bru! That would be epic! I went to their show when they were here YEARS ago bud at Standard Bank Arena! Between them and Cypress Hill, best concert EVER!

      martin.gee.godfrey - 2012-06-15 15:03

Charles old chum, will you go to an Iron Maiden concert? Surely not given your Christian beliefs and the fact that Maiden have demons and the number of the beast as part of their act??

      charlesdumbwin.dumbwin - 2012-06-15 15:13

Having listened to their music, and having heard numerous interviews with the band members, I believe their views on evil is about mankind overcoming evil. So in short, I probably would go to an Iron Maiden concert. Might be a good place to do some recruiting, at the risk of being lynched by the Maiden hordes :)

      Francis - 2012-06-15 15:29

      Rocking! Bring it on!

      martin.gee.godfrey - 2012-06-15 15:32

hahaha Charles... at least you have a sense of humour about it.. :)

Carlos Santana has always had a big following in South Africa. We’ve had the likes of the Rolling Stones, UB40, Eagles, Sting, Michael Jackson, Tina Turner and the Bee Gees. (Artists with Pedigree). Why no Carlos Santana. Heard that he was on holiday in KZN sometime back, but no Concert. Would definitely be a Sell Out Concert.

      wehan.victor - 2012-06-15 18:40

if they can bring Beyonce, Adele or any other big names like that i'll see that somebody is working somewhere. I'm tired of the outdated acts they usually bring in SA.

  • martin.gee.godfrey - 2012-06-15 15:38

In all honesty, why the whole "let's tease people" thing. Do Big Concerts think that we will all be hoping for the weekend to race past so that we can hear who they have booked? Either way, the concert will definately bypass Durban again and they will use all the old cliches about Durban audiences not supporting bands etc. (Niel Diamond sold out at the Moses Mabhida stadium - and Big Concerts didn't bring him here!)We'll wait till Monday when "5fm, Gareth Cliff and Big Concerts make the BIG announcement!!" Meanwhile, bring on the rugby!
