Bloem's own Justin Bieber discovered

Bloemfontein - Until Wednesday no one knew who the ten-year-old YouTube singing sensation, Vicus, was.

The search for Vicus, which also included international record label Sony, on Wednesday reached new heights when the Daily Sun published a screenshot from the video and asked: "Where in the world is Vicus? The search has begun!"

And this while the young scholar from Heidedal, Bloemfontein, now a few years older, has been continuing his passion for music at local talent competitions and in church, unaware of the frenzy surrounding him.

After Vicus Visser (17) from Heidedal was spotted in a Bloemfontein newspaper, many people, including the media, swarmed the family.

Akon's record label

Everyone now wants a piece of South Africa’s own possible Justin Bieber fairytale.

Vicus’s video, a homemade cellphone clip, has been watched by more than 100 000 people on YouTube.

The Daily Sun reports that even Universal Music, American superstar Akon’s record label, was looking for Vicus.

Vusi, a family spokesperson who refused to divulge his full name, said the frenzy broke out on Wednesday after Vicus appeared in the Daily Sun.

'We weren't prepared'

A Sony representative phoned them and said he had been searching for Vicus for more than six months. He even searched as far as George in the Eastern Cape.

On Wednesday, the Independent Online reported that he is possibly in Eldoradopark.

For Vicus’s family, their only objective is to protect him.

"We weren’t prepared for this. We haven’t even had time to sit down as a family and discuss this. Everyone wants an interview. One can’t push him in here and there. The child is still at school!" said Vusi.

Canadian pop teen sensation Justin Bieber was also discovered on YouTube.

Embedded below is the video that caused all the fuss.
