Bruno Mars to curate and perform at Super Bowl 2016 halftime show

Los Angeles - Bruno Mars has been asked to curate and perform at the 2016 Super Bowl halftime show.

The Uptown Funk singer took to the stage at the annual football championship in 2014 and impressed NFL (National Football League) bosses so much that they want him back for Super Bowl 50 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California next year, according to Entertainment Weekly.

A source added to Billboard that Bruno has been asked to "curate" the show and is expected to perform and line up some special guests to accompany him.

Bruno's performance with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2014 was the most-watched halftime show ever with 115.3 million viewers - until his record was beaten by Katy Perry earlier this year.

Speaking previously about Bruno, Sarah Moll, director of media events for the NFL, revealed that they chose him for the 2014 performance because she was a fan of his work.

She said: "Myself and our producer, Ricky Kirshner, were both personal fans of Bruno and had seen him in concert and knew what he could do. And it was a lot of just telling folks here and getting folks excited about Bruno and taking them to shows and letting them see what he could do. And that's kind of what got it going."
